GA RUSH REPRESENTS RUSH SELECT IN PHOENIX

Five Georgia Rush Players chosen to represent Rush Select in Phoenix

Each year the Rush organization scouts and identifies the top 18 players in the U13 through U16 age groups from all 24 Rush Clubs across the nation. These players are then invited to attend the Del Sol President’s Day Tournament in Phoenix, AZ. The players fly to Arizona on the Thursday, train together once on the Friday, and then compete for a championship.

Samantha Schoppy (U15G), Juan Luis Solorio (U16B), Alex Steen (U16B), and Victor Rivera (U16B) will all be travelling to Phoenix to compete in the respective age groups. Ali Millisor (U15G) was also selected; however, due to a previous commitment she will not be able to participate.

“I think this a fantastic opportunity for our players that only Rush can offer. If you think about it, only the Youth National teams offer this kind of an environment where players are brought together from all four regions to compete on one team. Here you have the best players from all 24 Rush clubs in the country coming together and trying to compete for a championship. These players may have a teammate from their home club, but for the most part it’s 16 to 18 players who have never met before trying to achieve a common goal. It’s really quite remarkable and again shows how the Rush organization continually leads the way in regards to total player development and over all experience within youth soccer.”, stated Technical Director, Russell Finch.

When asked about being selected for the “Rush Select” teams, two of the players, Victor Rivera, who recently helped his BU16 Nike team win a classic league championship, and Samantha Schoppy, who recently became apart of the Georgia Rush family since relocating with her family from Houston Texas, responded -

Q. What’s the most exciting thing about being selected out of all the 30,000 Rush players to represent the organization in your age group?

SAM: Being recommended and selected by the training staff and be able to represent my team and Georgia.

VICTOR: I am honored to be selected. I did not expect to be picked for this honor! I am so happy to be one of three to represent GA Rush. I will make GA Rush proud and I am proud to say I am from GA Rush.

Q. How do you feel travelling nearly 2000 miles to play with players from different Rush clubs around the country that you have never met before?

SAM: Nervous, but excited for the experience to play with different players from Rush around the country and to play in a tournament against some of the best girls team’s from the western part of the US.

VICTOR: It is so exciting to play and meet new players from different Rush clubs. Thank you Rush!

Q. Have you ever played in Phoenix, AZ?

SAM: No, but I’m looking forward to playing in warm weather.
