Beat Ambush

During the 2011 Fall Season GA Rush Technical Director, Russell Finch, decided to implement a program called “Beat Ambush.” The idea was to create a little more competitive rivalry amongst GA Rush and their neighboring club, Alpharetta Ambush.

Players that didn’t have a game came out and supported the GU17 Nike team during their Athena A game against Ambush. T-shirts and pompoms were given out and Rush songs were sung from the bleachers.
“Growing up we played games during our season that we refused to lose because if we did then we’d hear about it at school the next day. I remember my coach at U12 screaming at us before the game telling us he didn’t care if we lost every game this season but we had to win this one. To me having a sense of belongingness and pride is important, I want our younger players to score goals and kiss the Rush logo on their jerseys because they love the club and being part of it. The idea was not to upset anyone from Ambush but to create a competitive culture between the two clubs. I had the club presidents agree to it prior to it being implemented. My next goal is to have a coach’s game for charity between the two clubs, where each club hosts the game at their field every other year and we have a BBQ and enjoy the rivalry.”, stated Finch.
GA Rush is excited for opportunities to continue this program during the 2012 spring season. Come out and support the Rush teams during these games!
